Abstract
According to a widespread opinion, phraseological units are considered cultural signs and bearers of national character. The given article investigates German phraseological units, namely phraseological lexemes with anthroponyms and toponyms, whose structures contain a proper name and which can perform this function. For this purpose, it discusses the etymology of these phraseolexemes.
