Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of the notion of "material truth" which, in legal research, is presented as a kind of philosophical category "objective truth". From logical-gnoseological and axiological perspectives, the content of the term "legal norm" is analyzed. It is concluded that legal statements contain not only truths about human deeds, but also express the fairness of judgments made by legal specialists regarding social events in terms of legal norms. It is argued that legal norms themselves, as imperative judgments (prescriptions), belong to axiology and, as complex rational structures, they cannot be qualified from gnoseological perspective as true or false.
