Abstract

The Regional Environmental Impact Assessment (REIA) requires selection and applying of a set of environmental indicators aimed at characterizing the quality of environmental components and its dynamics, but also those related to the specificity and proportions of anthropogenic activities. Based on conducted analysis, to perform REIA studies it is proposed to apply a well-defined complex of indicators, which would refer to the pressure-state-response triad. These indicators should include: (a) the initial state of the environment and its components (environmental quality); (b) the nature and proportions of the pressure of human activities on the environment, their dynamics and trends in space and time that may cause changes in the environment in the broad sense (anthropogenic pressure); (c) the environmental effects of human activities (state of the environment as a result of anthropogenic activities); and, (d) society's responses to environmental transformation (formulated action plans; implemented environmental protection measures and restored natural resources; allocated financial resources for environmental protection purposes, etc.). This approach is based on the REIA study done for Northern Moldovan Plateau.
