Abstract

This article presents the importance of reading and reading competence, highlighting that this is not just a simple process of decoding words, but a complex act that involves interpretation, analysis and synthesis of information from the text. Reading not only enriches knowledge and vocabulary, but also develops skills essential for success in life, such as effective communication, critical thinking, and complex problem solving. In the school context, reading aims to train competent readers, able to interpret and apply what they read in various contexts and to understand the meaning and importance of information obtained from texts.
