An analysis of students’ perception of plagiarism: the case of Alecu Russo Balti State University [Articol]
    (USARB, 2019) Condrat, Viorica

An analysis of students’ perceptions of irony as a rhetorical strategy used by Noam Chomsky and Jonathan Swift in their essays „A Modest Proposal” [Articol]
    (USARB, 2020) Condrat, Viorica
The present article aims to compare the way non-native readers react to the use of irony as a rhetorical strategy in the essays written by Noam Chomsky and Jonathan Swift. The paper is based on observation and assessment data collected during the classes in Discourse Analysis held at Alecu Russo Balti State University of Moldova. The findings suggest that students found it rather difficult to appropriately decode the authors’ intended meanings, as they needed help in the process of discussion. Moreover, it appears that Noam Chomsky’s essay did not impact the students at all, even though they are part of the 21st context to which the essay refers. Thus, while decoding Jonathan Swift’s essay, irony created a sense of solidarity and inclusion; whereas, irony in Noam Chomsky’s essay created a sense of total exclusion in the readers.

Conversation analysis in "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway [Articol]
    (USARB, 2009) Condrat, Viorica
Conversation may seem chaotic at first sight. Yet, under analysis, it appears to be a highly structured process, which follows specific rules and norms adopted by a given linguistic community. The present article analyzes the conversation interchange between the protagonists of Ernest Hemingway’s short story “Hills like White Elephants”. The undertaken study reveals the similarities between fictional and natural conversations. It is an attempt to prove that any conversation is centered on a practical necessity. The author aims at highlighting the existence of a literary conversation (i.e. between the writer and the reader), where the literary text appears as a reciprocal discourse based on a literary-communicative intention.

Epistemological framework of language education research and philosophy [Articol]
    (USARB, 2018) Condrat, Viorica

Establishing meaningful relationships within a small discourse community to enhance students’ academic writing skills [Articol]
    (USARB, 2019) Condrat, Viorica

    (USARB, 2019) Condrat, Viorica
The article introduces the notion of the flipped classroom, focusing on the benefits it can bring into the English language classroom. It presents the preliminary results of a small scale study on the way grammar topics can be covered when the flipped model is applied at the practical course of English with first year university students. The topic needs further investigation as it seems premature to clearly state the benefits of flipping the language classroom. Yet, it can be said that applying such a model can contribute to the development of learner autonomy as well as HOTs.

    (USARB, 2018) Condrat, Viorica
The 21st century context seems to be quite challenging when it comes to discriminate between facts and opinions, truth and lies. Therefore, students should be equipped with the necessary skills which will enable them to judge the value of truth, to transfer the acquired knowledge to new contexts, to solve problems and to think critically. The article examines the importance of scaffolding the development of higher order thinking skills at the university level. Students appear to be rather unprepared to think critically. That is why the educator is to design the education process in such a way as to help students enhance their higher order thinking skills. The article examines some strategies applied to fourth-year students at Alecu Russo Balti State University, which can be used to help students become critical thinkers.

Observing the Impact of Youtube Videos on Students’ Engagement and Learning [Articol]
    (USARB, 2024) Condrat, Viorica
The rapid technological development has tremendously impacted people‟s every walk of life including the way they learn. Thus, researchers and educators try to look for viable solutions to harness the potential technology can bring to the education process. One way to engage students at present in actual learning is to use/create YouTube videos for university courses. The article describes a qualitative study of the impact YouTube videos had on students‟ engagement and learning during 2023-2024 at the classes held at Alecu Russo Balti State University. The data was gathered with the help of observation and informal discussions with the students. Analyzing students‟ behavior and actions it appears that YouTube videos can positively impact students‟ engagement and learning if the students are autonomous learners and are intrinsically motivated to study at the university. Thus, teachers should think of how to optimally integrate the YouTube videos into the education process. Similarly, they should consider creating their own YouTube content to scaffold their students‟ learning.

On the importance of developing the intercultural communicative competence in EFL learners [Articol]
    (USARB, 2022) Condrat, Viorica
Language education should centre around the development of the intercultural communicative competence in learners as it enables them to appropriately interpret messages belonging to foreign contexts. It is not sufficient to be fluent and accurate in English for successful communication to occur if little attention is devoted to the intercultural communicative competence. Learners might interpret the message from their ethnocentric points of view and not value the otherness in the interlocutors. The article analyses the observation of a class in English C2 Level in which the learners failed to appropriately interpret the messages of the texts they had to deal with. It appeared that their intercultural communicative competence was poorly developed, although their fluency and accuracy in English were rather good. It becomes clear that language educators should prioritize the development of intercultural communicative competence, particularly at present when the global village has become a reality.

On the importance of identifying oneself as a cultural being in the process of exploring culture in an efl setting [Aticol]
    (USARB, 2020) Condrat, Viorica
The article focuses on the significance of raising learners’ cultural awareness in the process of language education, taking into consideration the needs of the 21st century globalized society. It suggests three frameworks language educators could use in the classroom to help learners become effective users of the English language in possible cross-cultural encounters. Thus, language educators should help learners understand the importance of identifying themselves as cultural beings embodying various values and beliefs of their own culture. This awareness will enable them to effectively commu¬nicate in both intracultural and intercultural settings. Language educators should also focus on the language used while expressing culture and enable learners to become effective users of English.

    (USARB, 2024) Condrat, Viorica
Being a leader does not only relate to a person’s ability to lead their team towards the realization of the common goal, but also to their ability to be emotionally intelligent. An inspiring leader should be able to appropriately identify and manage their own emotions, in order to genuinely connect with their team. Leaning into their vulnerability and understanding the real causes of their impulses and reactions can contribute to the success of the whole team.

Plagiarism in academic foreign language writing [Articol]
    (USARB, 2018) Condrat, Viorica
